In this weeks product focus we are going to take a look at the QTX ZEPHYR-300 compact haze machine which is perfect for Mobile DJs or small to medium venues. We have a wide range of hazers with the majority being able to use the standard water based fluid that is readily available from us or other retailers. Whilst there are many brands who claim you should only use their fluid – you will find many suitable brands of fluid work fine and we carry Equinox in both Light and Dense styles which will work perfectly with this machine.
The big attraction for this machine is the cost, it is a cheap haze machine given the output and features it contains which you would normally see in more expensive units. It has a powerful 700w heater within it which means it can product haze quick enough to enhance your light show in most venues – and what you don’t always find in hazers of this price point is that it is DMX compatible with 2 channels to use for output and fan control, so even in an installation in a venue where DMX controllers are used the ZEPHYR-300 hazer would be at home.
As well as being controlled by DMX, many people just want to press a button and get haze when they need it – this is easily achieved by the wireless remote control that is included. The remote is RF too which means the machine picks the signal up easily unlike IR remotes where you need to point it directly at the receiver. With this in mind you can pop your hazer out of the way if needed and still control it with ease to produce haze when you need it. There is also the ability to control the machine from the digital menu on the rear of the unit.
Other features on this unit include a removable fluid container to make it easy to refill or empty, a fluid level indicator section on the rear and an attached hanging bracket should you wish to mount this hazer somewhere.
Finally, the question we get asked daily about haze machines is can they set off smoke alarms and the simple answer is yes. At this level hazers are a smoke machine with a fan and slightly different fluid that means it isn’t as concentrated as fog on output – therefore it is less likely to trigger smoke detectors and even more so if used occasionally. From our experience we find DJs looking from behind the DJ Booth cannot see how impressive the haze is on their light show – but go out the front and see from the clients view and you will see only a small amount of haze is needed to have a great effect, so just be gentle on that haze button.
