Passive Subwoofers for PA Systems and Installed Sound
A passive subwoofer reproduces the low frequencies that give music weight, from bass guitar and kick drum to electronic basslines. Used within a correctly configured PA system, it supports the main speakers and helps deliver a fuller sound for audiences.
Prebeat’s range includes compact installation subwoofers, dual-driver cabinets and larger 15-inch and 18-inch models. Choose around your venue, required output and the amplification already available.
Compact Bass Cabinets for Venues and Hospitality
A compact subwoofer can add bass to a background music system without taking up the space of a large PA cabinet. Smaller and low-profile designs offer positioning options in bars, restaurants, function rooms and other commercial spaces.
Consider cabinet dimensions, connection access and placement before choosing. Bass response changes with room layout and proximity to walls, so the final position matters as much as the cabinet’s size. Selected models are available in black or white to suit different interiors.
Larger Subwoofers for DJs and Live Music
For DJ playback, bands and events that need greater bass output, larger passive subs provide options for expanding a PA system. Compare frequency response, sensitivity, maximum sound pressure level and power handling alongside driver diameter.
A larger driver or higher wattage figure alone does not establish which subwoofer will perform best. The cabinet design, amplifier, processing and number of speakers all contribute to the result. For mobile use, also consider weight, handles and transport space.
Matching a Passive Subwoofer to an Amplifier
Passive subwoofers require an external power amplifier. Match the amplifier’s output at the relevant impedance to the speaker manufacturer’s recommendations, and account for the total load when connecting multiple cabinets.
Compare equivalent power ratings rather than treating continuous, programme and peak figures as interchangeable. Suitable limiter settings and manufacturer-recommended filtering help keep the system operating within its intended limits.

Crossovers, Processing and Speaker Connections
A subwoofer needs an appropriate low-frequency signal. Depending on the model and system design, filtering may be provided by a built-in crossover, amplifier DSP or an external speaker processor.
Check the required crossover settings and how the subwoofer will integrate with your main speakers. Correct level, polarity and alignment help the two work together around the crossover frequency.
