DMX cables carry control data between a lighting controller and compatible fixtures, allowing you to manage functions such as colour, dimming, movement and effects. 3-pin and 5-pin DMX leads and adaptors

Choose the connector format used by your equipment, checking both the controller output and each fixture’s input and output. Our range includes 3-pin and 5-pin DMX cables, plus adaptors for connecting compatible equipment with different XLR formats.

Measure the planned cable route and allow enough slack for positioning without pulling on sockets. Short links help keep neighbouring fixtures tidy, while longer leads give you more flexibility when placing lights around a room.

Specialist lighting connections and cable reels

Choosing and using DMX cable

Use cable designed for DMX data transmission. Although a 3-pin DMX lead can resemble a microphone cable, matching plugs alone do not establish that the cable is suitable for lighting control.

A typical wired setup links the controller to the first fixture, then continues from each fixture’s DMX output to the next input. Follow the equipment instructions for termination at the end of the line and use a suitable DMX splitter when separate branches are required.
