Horn speakers provide efficient, directional sound projection for public address, paging and warning systems. Their high sensitivity allows spoken messages and alert tones to remain clear across large areas and in locations with high levels of background noise.
They are widely used in warehouses, factories, car parks, sports grounds, construction sites, transport facilities, schools and public spaces. Weather-resistant construction also makes many models suitable for permanent outdoor installation.
Our range includes conventional speech horns, wider-frequency music horns, 100V line and low-impedance models, fire-rated speakers and portable megaphones. Explore our complete selection of background music and commercial PA systems for amplifiers, installation speakers and matched system packages.
The flared shape of a horn speaker directs sound towards a defined area rather than dispersing it equally in every direction. This improves efficiency and allows announcements to travel further using less amplifier power.
High sensitivity is especially valuable in noisy environments where conventional speakers may struggle to deliver intelligible speech. A correctly positioned horn speaker can project instructions, alerts or paging messages towards the intended audience without directing unnecessary sound behind the speaker.
Horn speakers are particularly suitable for:
A 100V horn speaker is ideal when multiple speakers need to be distributed around a large site. Several horns can be connected to one compatible amplifier using long cable runs, making 100V systems practical for factories, warehouses, sports grounds and multi-building installations.
Most models provide selectable power tappings. These allow the installer to adjust how much amplifier power each horn receives, so different areas can be given an appropriate volume level.
The combined wattage of all selected speaker tappings must remain below the rated 100V output of the amplifier. Allowing additional amplifier headroom helps provide dependable performance and leaves capacity for possible system expansion.
Our range of background music amplifiers includes 100V mixer amplifiers suitable for paging, announcements and distributed horn speaker installations.
Low-impedance horn speakers are suitable for smaller systems using one or a limited number of speakers. Common applications include security systems, vehicles and installations where a compatible low-impedance amplifier is already available.
The total speaker impedance must remain within the operating limits of the amplifier. A low-impedance speaker should never be connected directly to a 100V amplifier output.
Selected models include built-in amplification for connection to a suitable audio source or power supply. Always check the power requirements, input type and intended application before installation.
Traditional horn speakers are primarily designed for spoken announcements, warning tones and paging. Their restricted frequency response concentrates amplifier power within the frequencies most important for speech intelligibility.
Music horn speakers use full-range or two-way driver designs to reproduce a wider frequency range. They are a better choice when the system also needs to play background music, event audio or promotional messages.
Although a music horn provides fuller reproduction than a conventional speech horn, its performance will still differ from a standard full-range loudspeaker. The choice should be based on whether projection, speech clarity or music quality is the main priority.
Many horn speakers are designed for outdoor operation, but their level of protection varies. Check the specified IP rating to confirm whether a model is suitable for sheltered outdoor use, exposed locations or demanding industrial conditions.
Models with IP55, IP56 or IP66 protection are available for different levels of resistance to water and dust. Heavy-duty horns may also feature aluminium flares, corrosion-resistant brackets and materials tested for extreme temperatures.
Marine horn speakers are designed for locations where moisture, salt and changing weather conditions create a more demanding environment. The complete installation, including cable joints and mounting hardware, must also be suitable for the location.
Selected horn speakers are EN54-24 certified for use as part of fire detection and voice-alarm systems. These models can include fire-resistant enclosures, ceramic terminals, thermal fuses and fire-resistant connection cables.
EN54 certification applies only to the specified products. A certified speaker must form part of a correctly designed and compliant voice-alarm system, with every component selected and installed according to the project requirements.
Portable megaphones provide mobile voice amplification without requiring a permanently installed PA system. They are useful for sports events, schools, crowd control, emergency coordination, guided activities and outdoor instruction.
Available features vary between models and can include rechargeable batteries, sirens, detachable microphones, voice recording, Bluetooth and USB or memory-card playback. Output power, battery type and operating features should be checked against the intended application.
Vehicle megaphones and external horn systems are also available for announcements from cars, vans and other suitable vehicles.
The required horn speaker will depend on the size of the coverage area, listening distance, ambient noise and type of audio being reproduced.
Important specifications include:
A higher wattage does not automatically guarantee better coverage. Sensitivity, positioning, dispersion and the surrounding environment all influence how clearly the system will be heard.
Horn speakers are usually the better option for outdoor areas, industrial sites and long-distance announcements where efficiency and high output are the priorities.
For indoor halls, churches and other reverberant rooms, column speakers can provide more controlled vertical dispersion and a wider frequency range for speech and background music.
Horn speakers should be mounted securely and directed towards the listening area. Avoid aiming them unnecessarily towards nearby properties, roads or other areas where sound could cause disturbance.
For 100V installations, calculate the combined speaker tapping load and select an amplifier with suitable headroom. Cable type and conductor size should be appropriate for the installation distance, power requirements and environmental conditions.
Professional design and installation are recommended for large outdoor systems, industrial sites, fire evacuation systems and projects where coverage or regulatory compliance is critical.
